When you invest in Greater Ottawa County United Way--through your workplace campaign or as an individual—you join forces with thousands of residents of Ottawa County. Together, united, we invest in the building blocks of a better life for all.
In the 12 months ended March 31, 2009, more than 10,000 Ottawa County residents reached out to support more than 78,000 of their neighbors by giving 2 million dollars and 21,138 hours of volunteerism through United Way.
Education. Financial Stability. Health. Emergency Assistance and Basic Human Needs. These are the four impact areas of United Way’s work in the community.
The decisions about where to invest the commuity's generosity are made by local people who serve on United Way’s Community Investment panels. In 2009, 65 Community Investment Volunteers dedicated more than 1,300 hours of time and study to visit all community partner agencies and make their investment decisions. As a result, 63 programs of 38 local nonprofit health and human service agencies received United Way funds after demonstrating that their work had changed lives for the better. Their work touched more than one in four lives in Ottawa County.
FEEL THE ZEEL OF GIVING. Greater Ottawa County United way was honored to be selected by Zeeland's Main Street merchants as the nonprofit partner for December's "Feel the Zeel of Giving," five nights of holiday merriment on Main Street. A percentage of sales on all five nights was donated to United Way to be invested in programs that will create the building blocks of a better life. Thank you to all the merchants listed above, and to Abigail deRoo, Marketing Director for the City of Zeeland, one of the best "elves" ever!
